3 Gold Per Minute

Mystic Forge combining can make absurd amounts of money. Yesterday I ran out of skill points converting crafting materials from one tier to the next one up, at a rate of literally 3 gold per minute. That's how long it took to buy materials, combine in the forge, and sell for a huge profit.

The key to playing the mystic forge is to quickly look up the validity of combining materials. So you need to memorize the following formulas:

Tier A -> Tier B
5x Dust + Philosopher Stone + 50x Tier A + 1 Tier B < 16x Tier B

I use 16 because that's the approximate amount of items you will get back per attempt. If you want to tip the scales further in your favor, then you will want it to be closer to 12 or even lower of Tier B is greater than the other mats I listed on the left side of the equation.

That's one method for combining, but you can also forge together things like ore, wood, and cloth. Those have a similar but slightly different equation.

5x Dust + Philosopher Stone + 250x Tier A + 1 Tier B < 25x Tier B

Know the formulas and  you will be able to pounce on these kinds of opportunities as they occur naturally in the economy or after unforeseen changes to the game take effect.

I havent been able to figure this one out. Everything I have looked at seems like it would lose money. Are you restricted to fine crafting mats or can you do this with anything?

Certainly not anything! I have 3 right now that are working great and I haven't moved on past them yet to research additional ones. Took me a good bit to find the right ones though, keep looking! Remember to assume buy orders and not sell orders for prices when buying and then sale orders when selling.

I believe that this automatically updating spreadsheet from the Egg Baron is relevant.

Tri313 I looked at the spreadsheet and it is completely wrong. The average output is not 7, it's more like 16. I very rarely get below 10 ever.

I just did this a few times with bloods. I got around 7 to 12 normally with two random 20+'s

You think he was using a lowball number just as a base?

Ok what tiers of fine materials are we talking about here?

If people do their research they will discover them. I have done mine and revealed it in the forum. I really don't want to make it 100% public because then it will get over-run as well as possibly cost the people trying it money.

(First poster here) I finally found the only two items that are heavily profitable! Everything else has a huge loss on them. Around 30 to 40 silver profit per skill point. Ive got 10 gold invested now, so here's hoping this isnt too volatile.

I made over 5 gold using this the other night. I have a feeling that this isnt gonna last for too long though.

I thought I'd try to help so I made a thing to do these calculations and show in a simple way whether it's worth Forging stuff:

Hope it's correct, and also useful :D

I averaged about 7 per, not 16. Is there a trick to getting a higher return? I often got 5 back, and my highest return was 10 items.

    Tier 1 is 16 but I think tier 6 is 7.
